Cosmic Lover
I wrote this many years ago, and found my way back to it recently.
For long enough
I’ve been alone
So I think I’ll drive my
Fleeting starship space-soul back home
And, gliding on my return,
I’ll pierce the clouds once more
And land in a different place
Arriving
Like an unknown package
Left at the door
I’ll arrive in a different place
Where
The living won’t know my name
They’ll see I wear a borrowed face
Like others they’ve met before
And called insane
Many times before—
But no time ago—
In a place you probably know
Or perhaps we’ll meet amidst travels
For the cosmos moves in circles
Cycles within a cycle
And when
Our orbits cross again
You can
Never tell, but—
Maybe if the ship runs well
You can
Climb aboard
My starship enterprise
When you walk into my eyes
I’ll take you to where you’ve already been
Ten million light-years away
Where we’ll spawn a galaxy together
And if you want, we’ll stay
As we did many times before
And like back then, we’ll wed again
Within the purity of Heaven’s door
We’ll watch new moons forever
Inside and out together
Or I can meet you in the next world
On a ship that is your own
And who knows—
I may just hitch a ride
Aboard your starship space-soul.

I liked the image of two people moving through their own orbits and crossing again somewhere along the way. It gives the poem this feeling of distance and familiarity existing at the same time.
